POSITION: Staff Assistant, CS-301-09/11         
 
SALARY RANGE:  CS-09 $41,923 - $53,983
                            CS-11 $50,510 - $65,126
                                           
OPENING DATE:  March 31, 2008 
CLOSING DATE: September 30, 2008
 
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
 
Provide administrative analysis, support and assistance to the supervisor and other staff officials for developing program policies, procedures and guides; coordinating inter-and intra-staff actions and executing related program functions. Serves as liaison and ensures accomplishment of the program goals and objectives and related actions of the office. Ensures that any confidential and/or privileged information for which responsible is not disclosed to unauthorized personnel. Provide assistance in developing and preparing various organizational reports and actions; such as, budget formulation, contract and staffing actions, supply and procurement request, etc. Researches and drafts responses to requests for program information, letters of acknowledgement and related correspondence based on standard procedures, and if authorized, signs for the supervisor, correspondence where non-technical or non-sensitive issues are involved. Participates in conducting special studies, surveys, research projects or assignments, develop and analyzes facts needed and recommends the action to be taken on particular matters.
 
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

All candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience related to the occupation that demonstrates ability to perform the core competencies identified below:
 
Core competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of this position are:
 
At the CS-09 grade level –
 
1. Ability to organize, monitor and facilitate the workflow of an office in order to manage, prioritize and complete multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
2. Knowledge of grammatical rules and required formats to ensure correspondence is correct and adheres to established requirements.
3. Skill in computer software, such as: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
4. Ability to communication effectively both orally and in writing.
 
At the CS-11 grade level –
 
1. Thorough knowledge of office procedures and techniques, sufficient to coordinate administrative and program activities and to provide assistance to immediate organization staff and subordinate organizational entities.
2. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations.
3. Skill in computer software, such as: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
4. Skill in oral and written communication, to effective relay instructions or views and to provide intricate operational information.
 
All applicants must describe specific incidents of sustained achievements from their experience that show evidence of the above core competencies.  The responses to the core competencies MUST BE ON A SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER and attached to the Employment Application or resume.
 
Residency Preference Amendment Act of 2007:

A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
