POSITION: Electrical Engineer, CS-850-11/12 
 
SALARY RANGE:  CS-11 $50,510 - $66,126
                            CS-12 $62,499 - $79,959

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
 
Responsible for performing electrical engineering tasks related to electrical circuits, circuit elements, equipment, systems and associated phenomena concerned with the use of electrical energy. Performs technical plan reviews involving a variety of electrical projects and assignments. Conducts studies to evaluate alternatives for meeting objectives and makes recommendations on the appropriate approach. Provides detailed examination of all items shown on electrical plans; examines electrical equipment or material not covered by existing codes; makes detailed analysis of layouts of electrical systems making use of accepted engineering practice and standards for ensuring technical sufficiency and conformance to applicable codes and regulations. Examines riser diagrams, schedules and specifications for conformance with governing guides utilizing accepted standards and engineering practices used in the design and construction of electrical power distribution and utilization systems for buildings and other structures requiring building permit approval and performs calculations on the various schedules and specifications to determine code compliance.
 
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
 
All candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience related to the occupation that demonstrates ability to perform the core competencies identified below:
 
Possession of a degree in engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or combination of college level education and experience.
 
Core competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of this position are:
 
1. Knowledge of the National and District Electrical Codes and working knowledge of the BOCA and District Building, Fire Prevention, mechanical, plumbing, energy conservation codes, zoning, historic preservation, PADC construction requirements, EPA, FAA, FCC, OSHA and the District of Columbia Police, Fire and Public Works Departments’ regulations affecting electrical construction.
2. Professional knowledge of electrical engineering theories, practices, techniques and electrical engineering design and construction.
3. Thorough knowledge of design and construction of all types of electrical systems for buildings.
4. Knowledge of research and developmental activities and technological advances in the electrical engineering field
 
All applicants must describe specific incidents of sustained achievements from their experience that show evidence of the above core competencies. The responses to the core competencies MUST BE ON A SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER and attached to the Employment Application or resume.
 
Residency Preference Amendment Act of 2007:
A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
