The High School Intern Program (HSIP)
The High School Intern Program (HSIP) is a mayoral initiative designed to promote leadership and development in high school students attending DC public high schools. The HSIP is a comprehensive staff-to-student internship/mentoring program that connects students with DC government agencies and employees who can advise, coach, and guide them, as well as provide meaningful work-related experiences.
The 2009 program is open to 11th graders in District of Columbia Public High Schools. The program is not available to Charter Schools at this time.
Students must be nominated by their Principal by November 21, 2008 thus, students must notify their Principal of their interest in applying for the program by November 14, 2008. School Principals or their designee select students from two distinct groups (Best and Brightest and Aspiring Achievers [at-risk]). Only nominated students are eligible to apply for this program.

Academic Credit
The High School Intern Program begins during the fourth academic term (March 31, 2009) and ends on August 14, 2009. Students can receive a half (.5) academic credit-course (W16 Internship) during the fourth term and over the summer, one (1) credit-course (W17 Internship).

Application and Selection Process
Candidates are selected through a competitive application process. Applicants must:
- Complete the District’s online job application form during the recruitment period (September 22 – November 14, 2008). District job application form
- Submit an official transcript by December 1, 2008, to the High School Intern Program (see below for the address)
- Participate in an interview session (December 10 -19, 2008)
- Candidates are evaluated on their academic record and interview
- All applicants will be notified of their status in January, 2009
