District Employee SmartBenefits Commuter Program

If you use a form of Metro public transportation for your commute to and from work, you are entitled to a $25 monthly commuter benefit. The District of Columbia government will subsidize this benefit with WMATA for all Compensation Units 1 & 2 beginning October 1, 2007.

DCHR wants to thank all the employees who want to participate in the new commuter benefits program. Due to the overwhelming response of applications, we will only be able to accommodate the contractually mandated employees in Bargaining Units 1 and 2 for the month of October 2007. All non-union employees who have submitted applications will begin receiving the benefit in the second phase of the benefit implementation. The DCHR website will be updated to provide the phased implementation schedule. Thank you for your participation in making the new commuter benefit program a success.

SmartBenefits® allows the DC government to load the dollar value of an employee’s Transit Benefits directly to the SmarTrip card located on the reverse side of the employee’s ID Card. Employees can download SmartBenefits® between the first and last day of each month.

For more information, call DCHR's HR Answers at (202) 442-9700.
